Today I found this terrific site that allows you to input a little of your personal information and it calculates your "personal" savings. I filled out the gas stations part. All I did was give my auto model, make, year and zip and it told me where I can get the best gas prices. The top choice for my vehicle, a 2009 Honda CR-V 4 wheel drive was Costco.

I always buy my gas from Costco! I will definitely continue. I love to save money. It makes it a lot easier if you know the best price before you walk out the door. The site also sends "savings alerts" directly to your inbox.

Clipping Coupons!

You can save hundreds, even thousands a year by simply clipping coupons. You can start saving by starting with clipping those "Sunday" coupons from your local newspaper. There are also some coupon websites that you can print coupons right from your printer. Also there is a website that you can register your shoppers savings card and it will automatically take off "coupons" for certain things that you buy. www.coupons.com

1. Start by looking at the stores circular for things like chicken breast 50% off. Plan a few meals around the sale items that you buy. Have a "complete" list so that you do not buy unnecessary things. Be "store flexible" shop at the stores with the best sales for the week.

2.Look for sales on the coupon items. Many stores will put the item on sale the week that the coupon is out.

3.Go through your grocery list and put a star next to any item for which you have a coupon. Make a note of the specific brand and any special requirements (ie, must buy 2) next to the product. Immediately after you put the item in your cart, pull your coupon from your file and place it somewhere you won't miss it (the front of your file, your pocket, your cart). When you go to check out you'll have all your coupons together. This way you won't be stuck looking through a pile of clipped coupons while you're rushing to pay and risk missing one.

Take advantage of frequent shopper cards that offer discounts or bonus savings. My local Kroger lets me swipe my Kroger Card at the register, so I can receive additional, unadvertised coupons — mostly on items that are already on sale that day!

Storing Coupons

Inexpensive Containers - There are plenty of coupon organizers on the market today but all you really need is a simple basket or box with some index cards for dividers. Here are a few of my favorite ideas for inexpensive containers to store your coupons in…

* Gallon size plastic zip bags: I like using these because they’re clear and you can see your coupons at all times – sometimes out of sight means out of mind!

* Recycled envelopes: FREE! Instead of tossing out all those crisp clean reply envelopes (others may think of as junk mail), tuck the flap inside and use to store your coupons. This is great if you don’t have many coupons to store.

* Recycled shoe boxes, diaper wipe containers or empty food boxes: FREE! These are great because they won’t cost you a penny and have plenty of room to store hundreds of coupons.

Index Dividers – You can either purchase index dividers from an office supply or discount store, or make your own, as I did.

* Store bought dividers: Alphabetical and numerical index card dividers can be purchased and either used as is or adapted for coupon categories.

* Making your own dividers: FREE! Just about any type of large index cards or heavy card stock paper will do. You can even cut out cereal boxes and make your own sturdy dividers completely for free.

* Labeling your dividers: FREE! Make a list of the coupon categories you’d like to have in your coupon file, such as Breakfast Items, Coffee & Tea, Frozen Foods, etc… in alphabetical order. Then either label or print your dividers with these categories.

Initially, organizing your coupons may take a few hours, but it will help you save precious time (and money) each week. And by getting your coupons organized and ready to use, you’ll be on your way to saving in no time!!!

Warehouse Clubs...Deal or Not!

Warehouse Clubs can result in great deals from a Dell Laptop to 36 bottles of spring water. But that does not mean that every product in the aisles of Costco, BJ's or Sam's Club is always a good deal.

Here is what I have found.
Alcohol, milk, butter, eggs, meats, electronics and prescription medicines are great deals. For instance prescription medicines are routinely 50% lower than drug store prices. The meat department in these clubs are top notch butcher shops with supermarket prices. I buy my meat in bulk and split it into freezer bags for several meals.

The Not so Good Deals.
Toilet paper, paper towels, especially recently have skyrocketed at local clubs. I found Charmin 36 roll for $20.99 at Costco, that is over 58 cents per roll. I would keep your eye out for sales at Target and Walmart combined with a coupon, you will get a better per roll price.

Designer clothes , not such a good deal. I have found that stores like TJ Maxx and Marshalls have a better selection and better prices.

I found a pair of men's Perry Ellis dress pants at Costco for $19.99, the same pants at TJ Maxx were marked down to $14.99. Watch those sales and clearance deals!

Can you justify the cost of the warehouse club membership? At $40- $100. It all depends on the size of your family, how much you will be buying per trip and do you have any big ticket items that you will be purchasing during the year.

I have saved a ton of money at Costco. I have made most of my big ticket item purchases there. For instance last year we bought all of our pool furniture and a Plasma TV. Literally, saving hundreds of dollars and getting $200.00 back from their rebate. My membership pays for itself.

A good way to try it out is to take advantage of the"free pass" days that many of the clubs offer throughout the year. This allows you to check out the club and even make a purchase. Also keep in mind if you buy a membership at any time you can request a refund on the unused portion if you are not satisfied.

REDUCE YOUR WATER TEMPERATURE,
Hot-water heaters are typically set at 140 degrees (look for a temperature dial like your oven's), but 120 degrees is sufficient for killing bacteria everywhere but your dishwasher--and most modern dishwashers heat their own water anyway. You shave off 3 percent of your monthly bill for every five degrees you lower the temperature, says Hunt. According to the Energy Information Administration, the average monthly electric bill is $73, so you save around $9 a month.

CHECK YOUR THERMOSTAT.
For every degree you raise the temperature in summer and lower it in winter, you'll save 1 percent on your monthly bill. Keeping the house five degrees warmer or cooler can save around $4 a month.

PUT YOUR WATER HEATER ON A TIMER.
You can turn it off during the day and night when you're either away from home or sleeping. Get a timer at any home-improvement store and ask your electrician to install it. Using heated water for five hours instead of 24 can save you up to $20 a month.

REPLACE INCANDESCENT BULBS WITH FLUORESCENT ONES.
Fluorescent bulbs are a bit more expensive (about $6 to $7 each versus $1), but last up to seven years and cast a more flattering glow than they used to. Over its lifetime, a typical fluorescent bulb will save you over $50 in replacement and electricity costs.
